You’re here because you care about your player, your team, and the future of lacrosse in Savannah — and so do we.
At Hawksbills, we’re not just a club… we’re THE BILLS FAMILY!

Cultivation | Competition | Character
We’re built different, with a mission grounded in our three core pillars:
1️⃣ CULTIVATION – Develop the complete athlete on and off the field.
2️⃣ COMPETITION – Raise the level of play right here in the Coastal Empire.
3️⃣ CHARACTER – Build leaders who excel in life.
Our program curriculum outlines our goals for players and teams from 8U to the graduating seniors. Our directors plan team outlines from the first shell day to the last practice with a focus on initial player development and ending with teaching new team concepts for tournament competition
We continue to refine the way we approach practice and training by continuing to set hard expectations for our staff and our players to ensure everyone is getting the most out of their time with our lacrosse club.
✔️ Local rec, high school, and college coaches
✔️ Former/current college players
✔️ Educators & community leaders
⚡ These aren’t strangers — they’re the same leaders you’ll see at local rec and high school games!
✅ We know your player’s strengths, gaps, and how to help them grow.
✅ We push players to become complete athletes — not just tournament “role-fillers.”
✅ Tryouts are competitive and designed for balanced teams.
✅ Some players may start as practice players or be placed on younger teams to fuel long-term success.
✅ No shortcuts — playing time is earned through ATTITUDE, EFFORT, and SKILL.
📝 Our coaches come ready with practice plans based on US Lacrosse’s Athlete Development Model.
✔ Players will rotate positions — versatility is key.
✔ We create confident, adaptable players ready for fast-paced tournament play.
✔ Every tournament we enter is designed to push players beyond their comfort zones!
🎯 Your effort at practice = success on game day.
-
Please arrive 20 minutes early to practice and remind your son to get padded up quickly. We want to start our stretch and warm up on time if not early!
-
We will always try to end on time as well, sometimes we might go a little over, but starting on time and ending on time are important to us!
-
Your son needs to be at practice. Club lacrosse has a shortened season. Every practice counts! It is crucial and directly correlated to tournament success, be listening and paying attention in drills and on the sideline so coaches can be as efficient as possible
-
Shell Days are designed to focus on individual and small group skills so team practice can develop the team habits- we expect other stick skills to be practiced at home (wall ball, etc)
Equipment
-
Lacrosse Stick- We suggest that every player have 2 sticks in case one breaks.
There may also be times that we ask a player to play defense and we can provide
those sticks to see if he likes it first! Do not forget your jersey set and cleats for
tournaments!
Tent Village/Camping Out
-
Parents should bring tents, table, chairs, coolers, plenty of water, snacks, trash
bags, gatorades. The days are long and usually hot. We’ll need parents to help
coordinate the above so as not to waste or double up anything, but if everyone
takes an active role, the kids will have plenty of nutrition to play and the
parents plenty of comfort to watch lacrosse! -
We ask that all Hawksbills team mingle together, so if there are more than one
team at a tournament, coordinate with the other team parents to find a suitable
place to set up camp (we’ll help with this). -
Our goal is to have a team meal on Saturday night, if parents can help
coordinate.
Parking
-
Some tournaments are more parent friendly than others. We’ll do our best to
provide you with field maps and parking locations, but be prepared to arrive
over an hour early to the fields to give time to find a parking spot and get a
“tent village” set up for the teams.
Schedule
-
We will not know the tournament game schedule until a few days before. Tournament directors will allow teams to register a week
out and some teams drop out, causing a delay in finalizing the schedule. Be prepared to find out your teams’ game schedule as late as
Thursday before the Saturday start. It is best practice to reserve a hotel for Friday and Saturday night. If you find out on Thursday
that you have time to drive up Saturday morning, there is no penalty to cancel one night of a two-night stay.
Hotels
-
We use a travel agency to find us hotel block rates. We’ll post to the parent website and in the GroupMe. We ask that all players stay
at the same hotel so they can bond outside of the tournament games, but we understand that if you find a better rate, use reward
points, have family to stay with, then by all means.
Behavior
-
We all represent the Hawksbills program—coaches, players, parents, and fans alike. How we carry ourselves at these tournaments
truly matters. What makes these lacrosse tournaments and travel teams special is that everyone shares a love for the game. It's
something we all have in common. -
We encourage positive communication with the kids. Parents and fans are welcome to cheer on the boys throughout the game,
whether we're up, down, or tied. Let's leave the coaching to the coaches, as we're teaching the players to focus and not get distracted
by the sideline. -
When it comes to the officials, unless (or even if) you’ve taken the time to become one yourself, it’s best to refrain from commenting
on their calls. They do make mistakes, but when our coaching staff addresses those, it often leads to a fair resolution. However, if
they’re getting pressured from both sides, it can make things more difficult. -
Sports can be intense, and we all make mistakes. Let's remember that we're all ambassadors for the Hawksbills and for Savannah
Lacrosse. -
Lastly, if you have any suggestions or concerns, please wait 24 hours after the tournament before bringing them to the coaching
staff. However, I’m (Christian) always available, so if it’s urgent, feel free to reach out to me directly.
BEFORE PRACTICE
If we need to cancel due to the forecast, we will do so 2 hours before start time via text through GameChanger.
DURING PRACTICE
If we do not cancel within 2 hours of practice time, COACHES will need to monitor at the field.
Within the 2 hour window we determine if the fields are dry enough to play.
Canceling during practice would happen for heavy rain and/or lightning strikes.
LIGHTNING POLICY
There is an immediate delay for a lightning strike within 8 miles away. Staff will use weatherbug to determine the distance and get to cars and await information via GameChanger app.
Through our partnership with Sweetlax, Hawksbills players also gain
access to statewide and national team opportunities.
In addition to our in-season shell day clinics, the Hawksbills staff offer out-of-season small group training hosted by our staff, and special pricing on camps and showcases in the Savannah Area!
Being a part of the Hawksbills program, allows players to attend unique Sweetlax ID camps, play/tryout for regional and national Sweetlax teams, and join one of the top club organizations in the country,
The Sweetlax pipeline can take you anywhere you want, if you’re willing to put in the work! For the players ready to compete on an even bigger stage, Sweetlax opens the door to elite events, exposure, and next-level coaching.
Yes, please email hawksbills@sweetlaxlacrosse.com to set up a personal or group session.
Any questions on registration invoices can be directed to Christian Harris at hawksbills@sweetlaxlacrosse.com.
Please email, hawksbills@sweetlaxlacrosse.com prior to the event they are attending and our staff will notify Coaches.
Fall and Summer Travel Teams
No, helmets are not required for players to purchase, but we do encourage those who can because it always looks better when the boys are in the same uniform and helmets.
We want every player to get playing time they deserve. Attitude/Effort/Skill Determines:
Players with all three get the bulk of the time. Players with ⅔ get a good amount of time, players with ⅓ get some time.
We do not guarantee playing time, the player does.
Please bring all equipment - sticks, gloves, pads, mouth guard, helmet, and pinnie. Each player is also responsible for bringing their own water, hydration is a key element in the players’ performance. Our Coaches will break regularly for water, please pack enough for the duration of the event.
All information regarding practice will be listed on the Hawksbills team page.
For all information on club membership, please contact, hawksbills@sweetlaxlacrosse.com.
There will be one tryout in August for the Fall season and one in the spring for the Summer season. If a player is unable to attend tryouts please contact hawksbills@sweetlaxlacrosse.com and we will coordinate an alternative means to evaluate.
If a player commits and pays for a season they are obligated to play short of an injury. Anyone accepting a roster spot has been picked ahead of other players so it’s important they honor their commitment. No refunds will be given if a player quits the team as they will leave a void on our rosters.
Camps and Clinics
We are always looking to help develop new players. Hawksbills Camps, Clinics, and Individual/Group Training are OPEN to all players. You do NOT need to be on a Club team to attend. We are always looking to #growthegame and introduce lacrosse to as many players as possible. Check out our Sweetlax Academy Page!
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time (allow for more time if you need to register). Please have your player dressed in their gear and ready to play prior to the event starting (unless otherwise noted by the Coaches).
Each player needs to come to their scheduled event with all gear (sticks, gloves, pads, mouth guard, helmet, and pinnie). Each player is also responsible for bringing their own water to last the duration of the event. Hydration is a key element in the players’ performance. If a player forgets their water, please be sure to have them let the Coach know so that we can accommodate.
